You Compare?

I don't know if something right or everything wrong with this world but you compare. In the whole world there is nothing like comparing something with everything else and more precisely there is no good or bad or ugly. You compare that exists, or that doesn’t but that is not the end, you find questions and seek answers for there is always a better you, a better me, a better we and a better world.

Life is like that you never know there is a better life in store. You see there is always something missing that you can never compare. So what’s more, now you are asking me for a better comparison?

True. Even if one despises comparisons, EVERYONE compares in one form or the other. We not only get compared and compare ourselves, or our situations with others, we compare ourselves with ourselves. Sometimes feel like killing the person who invented the word and meaning for "COMPARE" but that's not the solution...the guy/gal must be dead already :P ...Call it human tendency and make peace?

@Ravi - Yes! but its not just about right or wrong or whatever. Perhaps there is something that is missing in "better" that leads to endless comparison, no?

alok said...

Smriti, ah! you speak my mind “compare is not the solution”, and I may extend it - if at all any solutions born out of it may only exists until the next compare because change is constant :)

It always seems to be greener behind the neighbour’s fence… But is it really? I am not convinced!

Ah comparison is innate to us..

We can never stop comparing.. even if we want to..

I think comparisons are inevitable...and sometimes it's okay to compare so long as you are not always looking to trade in what you have for what you are comparing it against. Stacking things up against one another helps to put certain things in perspective. And sometimes comparing oneself at different phases in life even provides great insight.

And I totally agree with you, comparisons are all relative, subject to change the next time you take another comparison.

Comparison works if it brings out something better..

i think what you are trying to say is stop comparing and stop being judgemental!!!.......

comparison is I believe the essence of life, for good or for the bad. Comparison created humans (remember Darwin's Natural Selection), and comparison is only something for which the human race is smart enough to have lent us this scope and the ability to think about comparison.

Without comparison, life would cease to have its meaning. We would lose the vigor to get better. And to pick one option over another :)

I think comparison is okay provided it does not negatively affect the one doing it, and due importance is given to that person's own achievements, however, small or big. However, I'd rather believe in my dreams and go after them.

PS: Enjoyed the Aaj Tu Yaad Aayi. Thanks.:)

When we do something that we believe in and think is right thing to do, there would be no comparison, is what I have learnt. And i agree with you that comparing does much bad than good.

There is nothing wrong with comparison. It alerts you to what is missing in your life and what is great in your life"

I hate myself for writing this, but I think you wrote this piece in a hurry. There are lots of grammatical errors you might want to correct. Sorry again!

Fida, I believe our eyes can see only the things that our mind wanted it to see and you don’t always need them to discover the unseen :)

alok said...

Nandita, how easy it to understand that you don’t know “what you don’t know?” then probably all those comparisons become another term of non sense. No?

alok said...

Poohi, that’s what I am hearing all the times.

alok said...

vagabond, yes! I do agree to your points and in fact sometimes comparison is a tool to clear off the confusions and put certain things in place but surely not always and not for everything. So I guess it’s not the only tool that one can have.

alok said...

Lakshmi, maybe you are right but how often we have that realization? I think, that is what matters the most.

alok said...

Shooting start, not exactly but was trying my bit - stop being a judgmental person based on your comparisons.

alok said...

Munmun, Oh! well then the essence of life remains with the one option out of many and that will show up in the characters somebody can posses and ultimately defines what is the meaning of this life to him/her. So do you really think comparing options will help picking the one option at certain juncture? If life is an electronic gadget I would surely say yes.

alok said...

Ajeya, thanks to you. I am glad, you just echoed my thoughts here, there wouldn't be any comparisons in things that we believe in them and think is the right thing to do.

alok said...

Celine, Oh! yes! truly believe in the dreams and go after them is what makes out the life. For sure, there are no comparisons for believing in your dreams :)

hey, that’s my pleasure, I am glad that you liked the song that’s my favorite one.

Diana, I think people start comparing things to identify the better or the short falls in others and create a boundary of their own for the materialistic life but most of the time ends up with the worst, simply because they failed to accept others for who they are.

Ash, I am glad to see you back here. Wish you too merry Christmas and a happy new year in advance.

GMG, thank you so much for the wishes and you too have a happy & wonderful new year in advance.

I would like to know more of your experiences about India. – Have a great weekend.

vamsee, well I wasn’t sure about the part whether it’s right or wrong. I guess different people have their own perspective to say and go about it. But I have this question; do you think if something is missing form somebody’s life that means life is not great? For example, let’s say A is richer than B, so B life is not great?

oh! forgive my english, if you can. FYI, I didn’t write this piece in hurry maybe it was the weird state of mind or the meaning of an invalid statement that I was identified with …
